Do as I say…
How many times have we heard that phrase? The phrase that implies that others are to do what we say and not as we do? Regrettably, and as my friends can attest, I can certainly tell others what to do or what I think is best for them. However, myself following my own advice is not always as easy. I KNOW that I should blog, carve out designated times for specific jobs, contact X amount of possible contacts each week, etc., etc. But, my follow-through is not always as I’d like. The same can be with painting…how I usually enjoy spending my time the most. I say usually because I recently finished a painting that I just love. And instead of being encouraged, I’m a little frustrated as I want to love each and every painting as I love this one. I’m in the middle of a painting that has real potential…but I’m just not sure what direction to take next.
This is where the “Do as I say…” phrase comes in. All the advice from experienced painters and all the books will advise to just keep painting and to not stop. So I will listen to this advice with this caveat…I am going to let this painting hang on a wall till I figure out what’s next…because that’s what I did with the favorite painting…but I think I’ll start another one. I will pick up the palette knives and paint.
BTW, the painting I love…is the “Fire and Ice” painting…located at the Austin Art Garage Gallery.
